Holiday July 2003 part 5

This week end there will be an air show in
Hungary and on Friday morning I saw a few
planes circling around Budapest already.
They made a massive sound for a while.
This was also the second day this month
that it was not sunny in the morning.
The weather here is already. from the
beginning of June above 30 degrees
and hardly any rain has fallen.

But when I went downtown it was good again.
Viktor dropped me near an internet cafe and
after I checked my mail I walked around for
a while and this time I decided to take some
pictures from well known places in Budapest.
The first one is the renovated market place,
on the Szabadság (freedom) Vamház krt.
just across the Freedom bridge in Pest.
It is a very great and nice place.
It is always busy in there and on the first
floor you will find some places to eat and
a lot of tourist stuff to buy, like clothes,
table clothes and stuff for kids.
On the ground floor they sell all the
vegetables,fruit, herbs and meat.
Also some bookshops and places to
changes money, you will find here.
In the cellar is a big supermarket
and also some fish shops and some
more other little shops with tourist stuff.

After that visit I walked to the museum road
where you find the National Hungarian Museum.
In there you can see the rope and scepter
of the king of Hungary and a lot more
about the history of Hungary.

Then after a little while you can see
the biggest synagogue in Europe at Dohány u.
I was also inside once and there
are several exhibitions about
the Jewish people and history.

A little bit further, after I went through
a part of the former Jewish district
,
I arrived at Király street. There you
find this old building. It belonged a
long time ago to the rich and famous
lawyer; Goszdo. A few years ago
the last people had to leave the place
because it was not save to live in.
Now they opened a pub in one of the
court yards that you find in this building.
If you have the right contacts and
when you pay a little money, there
is a lot possible in Budapest.
On Saturday night
I will visit
this place again to see a concert
of Spanish music.

From there on I walked in the direction
of Liszt Ferenc square. One block before
I saw this nice little church. I even walked
in but it was closed, but someone was tuning
the organ and I listened for a while.

Then I arrived at Liszt Ferenc tér,
the famous composer and in honor
of him they built the very big and nice
music academy. You can see many
statues on the outside of the building.
It is to big to get on one picture
and inside it is even more beautiful.

At the square are many nice and a little bit
more expensive terraces then in downtown.
I sit mostly here at Pesti Est because above
is Merlin Audio, where a friend works and
in Pesti Est itself, I was a DJ once.
Also here I met the Pall Mall girls again,
which you can see in my Peugeot pages.

After a nice drink I drove with my friend Tamas
to the Nyugati train station to post some letters.
Also there is a big shopping center behind it
and close from there you can go in the air
with this balloon. I think there are 3 places
in the world where they have this.
In February I wanted already. to go in with
my son Jordi, but it was to windy then.

The station is built by Eiffel and in there you
find one of the most nice constructed Mac Donalds.
I think it is open day and night.

We went to nice Serbian restaurant to have
dinner and after that we decided that it was
Friday night, we would drive home.
On the way to my apartment we pass
the Budapest Hotel and I managed to
take a picture of this tower while we
were driving with a speed of 40 miles.

I was lucky and catches it nearly complete.
The next day we went to town to do some
shopping and drink a coffee in the famous
Gerbeaud restaurant at Vörösmarty tér
.
This square is at the end of the Váci u.,
the most famous and expensive shopping
street of Budapest. Here you will find
the same shops as in any world city
and with the same high prices.
Like our coffee here was 500 forint,
that's 3 times the regular price, but
it was good coffee, served with a
nice little glass of water.

Just around the corner I saw this gallery
with some beautiful art in their windows.
I made some pictures but you see me
and the surrounding in the reflection.
