Holiday July 2003 part 3

Many times I go in the day time or sometimes
in the evening toRacz-kert, a pub in a garden.
There are more and more of these pubs in
Pest and in Buda, but this one of the first.

Sometimes during the week there are also
concerts. This was a funny dressed band
that played old time hits in a funny way.

On July 18 it is my birthday and it started
with some rain but I still could make a
nice walk through a part of the town.
This is the famous Gellërt hotel in Buda.

After that I cross the freedom bridge. It is
green and completely from metal. I have
something with this bridge and I walk
over it as much as I can.

Right after the bridge is a big building for the
university and beside that one is a
vegetable market. And they reconstructed
that building in a perfect way.

Specially the roof is interesting to see.
Only a few buildings in Budapest
have roofs like this.

But everywhere in Budapest there are
so many nice buildings. I love to walk
through the city and see most of them.
This is a church in the street right
across the big market hall.

In the evening I went with my good friend
Tamas to a restaurant next to West Balkan.
I was there before and the food was ok.
After that we went to West Balkan to see
one of my favorite's Hungarian modern bands,
called Korai Öröm.

I like their music with 3 percussionists,
keyboard, bass, guitar, clarinet,
flute and other instruments.

We left after the show to meet my host Viktor.
Slowly I got nicely drunk and as tradition
I ended my birthday drinking champagne.
The next day I had a small hangover but
I was creative and made a site about
the Kaláka Festival 2003. Most of the
day I was sitting on the terrace, enjoying
the nice sun and view.

The next day it was Sunday and I decided
to go downtown and be lazy again.
They had close the Széchenyi Lánchid bridge
for all traffic. This is the oldest bridge in
Hungary and it is also called the chain bridge.

There was a small program going on and
on both sides where small bars and food stands.
In the middle this man made some music.

With this elevator you can go to Castle Hill,
where you find some great museums and
many tourist shops and also you have
a great view over the Danube to Pest.

Besides the elevator is a really nice tunnel
that leads you to the other side of Castle Hill.

In the evening I went with my friend Tamas
and his mother to a chamber orchestra that
played in an old monastery. Someone told me
that it was one of the best places for acoustic music.
And it was and together with over 400 people
we enjoyed the music of Mozart and Dvorak.

It was already dark when they ended the concert.

Even later that night I had also another meeting
about the Sziget Festival at the end of the month.
The Sziget festival is the biggest festival of
Eastern Europe and more then 400 groups will play.
I have to take care of Jimmy Carl black, former drummer
of Frank Zappa. He will sing and play some drums
with the Hungarian band Cosmik Debris.
After that we go to 2 other cities in Hungary.
Two friends played at the meeting some blues.

On Monday I went to Petöfi Csarnok to use
the internet café for updating my sites.
I passed the transport museum and I had
to take some pictures in front of the train.

A little bit later I was downtown in Pest
and my car stopped. I checked and then
I discovered that I had no gas anymore.

Because I stay so far in the higher part of Buda,
my car runs much more expensive then normal.
From the apartment to the gasstation and back
is about 60 km.
