Reggae Sundance 1998
After the first two bands I went home
to transfer the digital pictures to my computer
and made some pages about the event.
Due to slow processing it took me an hour
so when I came back at the festival
I missed the Black Survivors, but I saw all the rest.
Beef was funny and sometimes it had a
more rocky then reggae atmosphere,
but it's always difficult to be the openings act.
After that MAKWERHU took over with some
Afro sounding reggae and more people started to dance.
I heard from others that the Black Survivors
were OK, but I missed them.
Last year the organization had a good
sound system in-between the acts,
this year it was less.
A good announcer but no really great
reggae during the changing of the stage.
What can I tell about the Hypnotix.
Last year it was the Iration Steppas
that was different from normal reggae bands.
The Hypnotix sometimes bring the atmosphere
of hearing those little subtle noises
with nice tunes behind it.
Nice and relaxing for a while.
Here are some pictures.
The field was nicely filled with people
so I shot some pictures of what
was going on there.
Like the camel of Nomad theater
or the entertainment for kids.
Slowly it was time for the Wailers.
I think they played a good concert
with a lot of famous songs
, but I didn't get a kick out of it.
It was to nice and soft for me
and the guitar player thought he was
playing in a different band with his boring solo's.
Here are the pictures.
The last band was Misty in Roots and
again I didn't get off like I hoped.
They had many people on stage and
the sound was great, but after 30 minutes
I had enough of it. Here some pictures.
Before the Wailers I wanted to eat backstage
but there was a line so I came back later
It was after 22.00 hours before Peer
and Niek
from Panic Productions had time to eat.
At 23.30 hours the festival ended and
most people went home or out in town
or to the camping to go on with
the Jamaican Jukebox.
Of course there was a nice bar in a big tent.
The last picture is of the backstage
cook.
He was playing football.
Well that's all for now and hopefully
we see you all back next year.
